The calades, these paths or squares of standing stones (laid in a random pattern), reflect a local craft akin to mosaic work and are often adorned with stylised decorations, floral, geometric or other motifs. It is a way for the craftsman in charge of the construction to add a personal and expressive touch to his work, but also to make good use of the diversity of stones to embellish it. Stones originally gathered to extend arable land. These calades, native to the region and crafted by human hands, are now part of the architectural heritage of our beautiful villages and are still the subject of meticulous restoration in the purest tradition.
